OIC

Planning and conduct of the exercise, ensuring it complies with the aim of the exercise

Informing base and unit staffs of the exercise plan

Ensuring that required communications are maintained

Ensuring that the range and facilities are left in good order and any defects or suggested improvements are reported accordingly with range and unit orders

Ensuring all duds, misfires and other problems with ammunition are dealt with properly and reported in accordance with regulations

RSO

Issuing any detailed local instructions

Ensuring all personnel are made aware of all safety regulations, through a range safety briefing

Close control and supervision of staff and weapons

Ensuring the safety of all personnel

Implementing the safety policy and ensuring the observance of the safety regulations contained in appropriate orders

Stopping firing when conditions arise that in his opinion would constitute a hazard

Inpsect all range facilities for correct operation before the practice

Report all unsafe equipment or practices to the CO of the unit and recommend changes to existing orders if necessary

Range 2IC

Check that all equipment is on the firing range

Check that the ammunition is collected and transported without danger

Supervise preparations

Assemble relays and allocate firing lanes

Contribute to proper practice operations

Check that coffee and meals are delivered

Supervise the firing range clean-up

Assemble Pl for debriefing and reporting

Check that equipment and material are returned; and

Supervise transport vehicle drivers

ARSO

Assist the RSO as directed

Ensure the safe handling of weapons at all times

Watch for safety infractions

Assist firers in case of stoppage (only when needed)

Be familiar with patrol practice to be conducted

Be proficient in C7 handling

Coach firers

Ensure the weapons are cleared before leaving the firing line

Ammo NCO

Ensure that nobody smokes within 50 m of the ammunition

Prepare the ammunition of the range IAW range instructions

Check that the soldiers put the correct amount of ammunition in the magazines

Count ammunition and record lot numbers

Control ammo salvage

Assist the 2IC in the collection and return of ammunition when needed

Butts NCO

Maintain positive control of all Butts personnel

Supervise the setup and teardown of all targetry

Establish and maintain effective communications with RSO

Pass on orders given by the RSO to personnel operating the target

Ensure the target operators are working as expediently as possible

Score targets on order from RSO and maintain score sheet

First Aid NCO

Position and check safety vehicle

Check that complete first aid kits are available on the firing range

Prepare stretchers

Give first aid when required

Background Activity NCO

Ensure any relay not firing or in the butts are contributing to the overall speedy conduct of the range

Rotate sentry and flag man

Maintain constant supervision of candidates

Emergency vehicle driver

Be prepared to evacuate any wounded to nearest hospital IAW instructions

Sentries

Understand all required duties, or ask the RSO before being posted

Remain alert and on duty until relieved

Sentries are not involved in the range practice

Halt all visitors (vehicles/foot traffic) and obtain permission from the OIC/RSO before allowing them access

Ensure they have a radio with a working and spare battery

Ensure they have a flashlight if operating at night
